My air conditioner is freezing up practically daily. I've tried resetting the climatic characteristic and nothing seems to work. What would you propose I to to stop my air conditioner from freezing?

Solution:

There are any factors that could be the cause. The four main reasons for air conditioner freeze ups:

Refrigerant charge

Outdoor temperature

Insufficient air flow

Defective blower

You may have a low refrigerant fee which can cause the air conditioner to freeze up. The principles needs to be charged correctly to enable it to work properly. You may have a leak in the refrigerant lines.

If the lines have been vibrating or rubbing other parts or objects the conflict could cause a leak. In increasing if there are loose fittings or weak solder joints it could be leaking from those areas. If you've carefully the refrigerant lines are not leaking than it may just need to be recharged. If you don't know how to recharge it you may need to experience a service technician.

In temperatures under 60 degrees outdoor air conditioning units tend not to function as well. When the climatic characteristic drops the principles begins to not function properly and freeze ups can occur. The simplest method is to not use your unit when the climatic characteristic cools down and open your windows or doors. If that's not a selection you will probably need to have a ambient climatic characteristic operate installed in your system.

The evaporator coils will become dirty over time. A dirty filter restricts the air flow development it lose air flow and eventually it becomes so slow that it freezes up, or at best, not cooling as well as it should. This results in dirty coils that will need to be cleaned. Depending on your air conditioner you may have to remove the coils to clean them. You should replace the Ac filter yearly. For central air conditioning units an additional one question that occurs is when you have duct work that is undersized causing the unit to freeze up. If you feel that may be the question you'll need to consult a professional. Try replacing the filter first and it may do the trick.
Air conditioner freeze ups can occur when the blower is not running at the required speed and may need to be replaced.

These are the main reasons why air conditioners freeze up. If you're lucky it may just be a dirty filter which you should be able to replace yourself.

transported Air Conditioner - No Vent - No Way

transported Air Conditioner - No Vent - No Way

A modern visitor to my website asked if there was such a thing as a portable air conditioner with no vent. I wrote back that I had never heard of one, but would check it out just in case some new advance in portable air conditioning had slipped by me.

What I found was the Haier commercial Cool 14,000 Btu portable Air Conditioner. In the goods description it states there's no need to setup a vent, but then goes on to say a "window exhaust kit" is included with the purchase.

I think what they're trying to do is persuade you and me that the term "vent" should be applied to permanent installations only like those for clothes dryers, and temporary installations, such as those used for portable air conditioners, aren't indeed vents at all - they're "window exhaust kits."

Call it what you will, one way or other the hot air generated by the compressor needs to be exhausted from the room. So I guess if you buy a Haier you'll be "window kitting" the hot air out the window instead of having to vent it like everyone else.

The fact of the matter is there is no such thing as a portable air conditioner with no vent.

So if you're looking for a portable cooling unit that doesn't wish venting, (and once again the term "portable" is field to interpretation) you have three choices: A fan, a small window air conditioner, or a portable swamp cooler - also known as a portable evaporative cooler.

Should I Replace or heal My Air Conditioner?

Should I Replace or heal My Air Conditioner?

Let's face it we'd all rather spend money on an spirited vacation versus a new air conditioner, but sometimes the "Should I replace or mend my air conditioner" demand must be asked and answered.

Should I Replace or heal My Air Conditioner?

Instead of giving you useless stats and technical jumbo I went level to the source for some handy tips and interviewed some of the top heating and air conditioning technicians in the Omaha area. I figured you'd find these tips useful.

Q: So what is the first thing we should do to rule whether we need to mend or replace our air conditioner?

A: One of the first things we want to do is look at our face unit and study it. We want to take a look at the face fins to see if they are flattened or damaged. whether it has been damaged by hail or children or anyone it may be if you have a 20% or 30% smashed over fin that directly relates to how much energy you may be wasting as well as how uncomfortable you may be in your current home.

Q: Some outdoor units are exposed while others are encased, Which works better?

A: Well we want to protect those fins from the weather and damage from cutting grass so yes an enclosed air conditioner unit would be better.

Q: face of taking a look at the face of the unit what else should we be considering?

A: The first thing I'd like to talk about is Seer, that's short for Seasonal energy Efficiency Ratio. It's a way of measuring air conditioners. Let's say you have a 10 Seer unit. Let's say it does 10 miles to the gallon. We'll compare it to cars because more people can communicate to that. If I had a 20 Seer unit that would be like 20 miles per gallon. Can you imagine a hundred percent growth in your efficiency?

Q: So the higher the Seer, the higher the energy savings?

A: That's right.

Q: What else can we look at?

A: One of the last things we'd want to do is to look right at the fastener on the unit. The maker should have put the date of manufacture. The imagine that is leading is because and air conditioner should last between 12-17 years. So obviously if your air conditioner unit falls between that range you would be a great candidate for exchange simply based on efficiency and the lack there of.

Q: It's a lot harder to read the labels on the older models. What do we do if they are unreadable?

A: Well that's when the professionals come into play. Not only can they rule the age and efficiency of your current unit, but just like a doctor they can rule what the best policy of operation could be for you. Remember it is not just about the cooling, but the full, indoor air ability of your home.

I hope these tips help you in your decision on whether you should replace or mend your air conditioner.

Air Conditioner icy Up? Try This Out

Air Conditioner icy Up? Try This Out

A base complaint among homeowners is that their central air conditioner is always frosty up. If this is the case for you then you might want to think about doing a maintenance check. Failure to have the problem properly diagnosed could succeed in long-lasting damage to this crucial unit.

While there are, in fact, some reasons that your air conditioner is frosty up the typical surmise is your refrigerant levels. There could be a leak in one of the lines or it has just run out.

When this happens the coil starts to get very cold and ice begins to form on it. It builds and builds and over some days, maybe weeks, it grows into a large block of ice. Over time this causes damage to your compressor (the large block unit on the exterior of your house). To preclude this you need to make obvious that your refrigerant levels are routinely checked once a year in order to preclude this from happening.

A quick explication to ice forming is shutting off your compressor, while letting the fans still run, so that the excess ice melts.

The evaporator coil also needs a good place to drain its excess condensation. You will notice some type of tube or pipe attached to it for this purpose. If this gadget gets blocked, some way, it can cause a huge build up that could damage your unit and cause it to freeze up. If you should notice that the problem is getting worse over time then you need to call a certified Hvac technician to come out and find the exact location where the leak is and fix the problem.

Another quick fix is just changing out the air conditioner filter. You would not believe how many homeowners let some years go by in in the middle of them doing this. These filters are at the most and development sure they stay unclogged is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to preventing precious problems with your air conditioner. A dirty filter will restrict good air flow which in turns will lower the cooling point of the evaporator coil below its typical frosty point. You need to study all the vents and keep on top of them staying debris free and clean.

Lastly, you need to check the thermostat. It's rare but sometimes it is not the central A/C unit that is malfunctioning but the unit (thermostat) controlling it. Not only should you set your inside temperature 15 degrees lower than the temperature exterior but you need to have it inspected once every some years. There is a way a homeowner can study the thermostat himself by discounting the Y terminal and looking if the air conditioner still turns on but you should only attempt this if you indeed know what you are doing.
